For example, a vaulted ceiling may need a continuous vent channel above insulation, or it may need a properly designed unvented assembly using the right insulation materials and vapor-control strategy. Simply adding a vent to a complicated roof section can create new problems if it disrupts the intended design.
If roof sheathing is already stained, inspect it before assuming replacement is necessary. Surface discoloration may be cleanable after the moisture source is corrected, while soft, delaminated, or deteriorated wood may require repair.
